The death of Mrs. Euphemia Guertin, a resident of Hebronville for half a century, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eliza LaPalme, 62 Phillip St., Hebronville early last evening. The late Mrs. Guertin was a nonagenarian, having celebrated her 94th birthday April 6th, this remarkable age making her one of the oldest persons in the city of Attleboro. Up to several years ago she was still very active and was widely known throughout this section for her tender care exercised in homes where sickness was prevalent. Born in St. Hyacinth, P. Q., Canada in 1831, she married when 19 years of age and came to this country a decade afterward, settling in Holyoke, Mass. Just 50 years ago she became a resident of Hebronville, and has lived in the village since that time. Death departed her from her husband 40 years ago, and for many years after his demise, she conducted a boarding house on Knight Ave. When living, she would relate the numerous changes which transpired in the local community, her graphic details evoking much interest from her listeners. Mrs. Guertin is survived by a daughter and son, Mrs. Eliza LaPalme of Phillip St., Hebronville, and Victor E. Guertin of Pawtucket, besides 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was one of the oldest members of the Woodlawn Society of the Ladies of St. Anne, Pawtucket. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from the house of Mrs. Eliza Lapalme, Philipp St., Hebronville, a high mass of requiem to follow at 9 o'clock in St. Stephens Church, Dodgeville, the Rev. Alfred J. Levesque officiating. Interment will be in Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket, Rhode Island.NOTE:
Euphemie was married in 1850; and, according to the 1880 U.S. Census for Attleboro, Massachusetts, her daughter Eliza was born in Canada in 1862.
