ADRIEN DYEL, ADRIEN DIEL, Seigneur d'Enneval Sentenced to a long term in prison for killing a man in a duel after dueling was outlawed by the king, Adrien was pardoned by King Francois I at the request of his cousin, Jean-Francois de La Roque de Roberval, the viceroy of New France or Canada in order that Adrien could serve as a commander of troops as part of Cartier's third expedition to New France. Cartier sailed in May of 1541, but Adrien accompanied Roberval in April of 1542. He distinguished himself many times during the conquest of the new world in 1545 and was cited for valor on other naval expeditions. In 1546, he led his troops to the rescue of Boulogne, France which was under seige by the English. In August 1561, he was appointed by the King of France to escort Mary, Queen of Scots, back to Scotland. He went by the name of Baron de La Garde. He married JEANNE Le BRETON 10 JAN 1528. A romantic novel entitled "Marie des Isles" by Robert Gaillard depicts the lives of Jacques Dyel and Marie Bonnard and was also made into a very bad movie. They had: 1.
